  The fifth Symposium on Asian Pteridology was held at Shenzhen

  The fifth Symposium on Asian Pteridology was held at Shenzhen, China, during 15 – 17 November, 2010. The symposium was organized by China Fern Society, State Key Laboratory of Systematic and Evolutionary Biology (LSEB) in Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), and Shenzhen Fairylike Botanical Garden (SZBG), China. A total of around 150 participants registered for the symposium covering 15 countries in Asia, Europe, North America and Africa.

• The Scientists of Biodiversity Heritage Library (BHL) Headquarter Visit IOB

  On Nov. 15 -17, 2010, deputy director of the Biodiversity Heritage Library Project (BHL) headquarter, the librarian of the Smithsonian Library of the United States, Mr. Martin Kalfatovic, made a visit to Institute of Botany, Chinese Academy of Sciences for a 3-day workshop on the Biodiversity Informatics.

  Two Foreign Professors Awarded CAS Visiting Professor in IOB

  November 10, certificate awarding ceremony of “CAS Visiting Professor” was held in the Institute of Botany, CAS (IOB). Professor Jinyun FANG, Director General of the Institute awarded the certificates of “CAS Visiting Professor” to Professor Robert A. Spicer from the Open University of UK and Professor Ian Max M？ller from the Arahus University of Denmark respectively. Professor Song GE, deputy director of the Institute chaired the ceremony.

  " Atlas of Woody Plants in China：Distribution and Climate" published

  Recently, the " Atlas of Woody Plants in China：Distribution and Climate” edited by FANG Jingyun, WANG Zhiheng and TANG Zhiyao was jointly published by Higher Education Press and Springer Publishing, Germany. This atlas has 3 volumes and totally more than 2,000 pages, illustrates county- based distribution area and related climate information in details of more than 11,400 woody plants in China.

  The Third China-Japan Colloquium of Mathematical Biology was held in Beijing

  The CJCMB3 was organized and hosted by the Chinese Society for Mathematical Biology (CSMB) and the Institute of Botany, Chinese Academy of Sciences (IB-CAS), in conjunction with the Japanese Society for Mathematical Biology (JSMB). The chairman of Scientific Committee is Professor Lansun CHEN (Chinese Academy of Sciences) and Professor Yasuhiro TAKEUCHI (Shizuoka University), Professor Zhenqing LI(Chinese Academy of Sciences) acted as a chairman of Organizing Committee. CJCMB3 had abtained the financial support from NSFC -JSPS Scientific Cooperation Program and the State Key Laboratory of Vegetation and Environmental Change.

  Co-hosted by Journal of Integrative Plant Biology (JIPB) run by the Institute of Botany, Chinese Academy of Sciences and the National Laboratory of Protein Engineering and Plant Genetic Engineering under Peking University, the workshop attracted about 200 teachers, editors and students from research institutes and universities.
