Alessandro Chiarucci is a full professor at the Alma Mater Studiorum - University of Bologna. He leads the BIOME Lab (Biodiversity and Macroecology) and works as head of the Department of Biological, Geological & Environmental Sciences. He is a botanist and ecologist with research activities focusing on species diversity patterns within the framework of biogeography, biodiversity assessment and conservation biology. His research mission is to understand the patterns and processes of species coexistence in relation to spatial and temporal scales and to improve the approaches adopted for biodiversity conservation. His management approach is to promote community-based decision-making for strategic development. He likes to collaborate with national and international colleagues, in the framework of theoretical, empirical, and applied research projects, with a logic of a friendly environment and exchange. He considers science as a contribution to a better world, peaceful and healthy for human beings and other organisms living on Earth.
