State Key Laboratory of Forage Breeding-by-Design and Utilization

Dec 24, 2025
Dedicated to safeguarding national food security, the State Key Laboratory of Forage Breeding-by-Design and Utilization addresses the growing tension between the rapidly increasing demand for animal protein—driven by dietary upgrading—and the limited supply of high-quality forage. The laboratory focuses on frontier theories and the development of cutting-edge technologies, leveraging molecular design to cultivate novel, high-quality forage varieties. Priority is given to achieving breakthroughs in key areas, including gene editing, intelligent design of molecular modules, and innovative forage evaluation systems. By systematically building an integrated innovation chain spanning "theory-technology-variety", the laboratory aims to lead advances in forage biology, accelerate the iteration of breeding  technologies, and ultimately achieve autonomy and self-reliance in national forage germplasm resources.
