  China and France Join Hands to Explore a New Chapter in the Science of Grape and Wine

  This year marks the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and France. These two countries have great significance and development potential in agricultural science and technology cooperation. The 6th annual meeting of the Sino-French Joint Laboratory on Grape and Wine (LIA Innogrape) was held on November 1 at the Institute of Botany, Chinese Academy of Sciences.

  CAS Expands Agricultural Research Collaboration with INRAE

  The Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) has committed to strengthening its collaboration with the French National Research Institute for Agriculture, Food, and Environment (INRAE) in the fields of agricultural science and technology. This was confirmed during a meeting held on October 14 in Beijing, where CAS Vice President HE Hongping and INRAE Vice President Jean-François Soussana exchanged views on enhancing cooperation, particularly in supporting young scientists and advancing research in areas such as climate change, biodiversity, plant breeding, and sustainable agriculture.

  Pioneering Sino-French Symposium on Innovation in Agricultural Science, Technology, and Sustainable Development

  On October 14, the First Sino-French Symposium on Agricultural Science and Technology and Sustainable Development, co-hosted by the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) and the French National Research Institute for Agriculture, Food and Environment (INRAE), and organized by the Institute of Botany, CAS (IBCAS), was successfully held.

  Exchanging Asia's Biodiversity: GBIF Asia Regional Nodes Meeting

  On August 28-29, 2024, the "Global Biodiversity Information Facility (GBIF) Asia Regional Nodes Meeting" was successfully held in Beijing. The meeting was an open event, with the host representatives, Director LIU Xiwen of National Science Library of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and Dr. XU Zheping, the GBIF Asia regional representative at the same institution, delivering welcoming speeches and introducing the scope and objectives of the meeting. During the meeting, delegates of Asia regional nodes shared their progress over the past year and the next work plans.   IBCAS joined the 2024 Chinese Arctic Scientific Research Expedition

  From July 2 to July 20, 2024, Dr. YANG Jian from the Institute of Botany, CAS, embarked on a visit to the Chinese Arctic Yellow River Station in Ny-Alesund, Svalbard, to conduct a vegetation survey in the region. The Chinese Arctic Yellow River Station is China's first scientific research station in the Arctic region. It provides crucial support for investigations into Sun-Earth interactions, changes in the Arctic climate and environment, and their relationship with global change, benefiting both China and the international community

  The 20th International Botanical Congress Convenes in Spain

  The 20th International Botanical Congress (IBC 2024) has begun in Madrid, Spain, with the Nomenclature Section running from July 15-19, 2024, followed by the main Congress from July 21-27, 2024. This global event is held every six years under the guidance of the International Association for Botanical and Mycological Societies (IABMS). Initially, the 20th Congress was scheduled to take place in Brazil in 2023, following the 2017 Congress in Shenzhen, China. However, the global pandemic prevented the 2023 meeting in Brazil. The Congress features plenary lectures, concurrent symposia, posters, exhibitors, short courses, and workshops, serving as a comprehensive platform for sharing knowledge about the plant and mycological sciences.

  The Second Phase of the Cooperation Agreement Signed with the French National Institute for Agricultural, Food, and Environmental Research

  Recently, during the visit to France, Vice President of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), Yaping Zhang, attended the signing ceremony for the second phase of the cooperation agreement between the Institute of Botany, CAS, and the French National Institute for Agricultural, Food, and Environmental Research (INRAE) for the Sino-French Joint Laboratory of Grape and Wine (LIA Innogrape). Present at the event were Ms. Yan Wu, Deputy Director of the Bureau of International Cooperation of CAS, Mr. Zhitao Ru, Deputy Director of the Comprehensive Department, Dr. Zhenchang Liang, Deputy Director of the Institute of Botany and Director of the Chinese side of the Sino-French Joint Laboratory of Grape and Wine, Dr. Wenqiang Yang, Deputy Director of the Institute, representatives from the Science and Technology Section of the Chinese Embassy in France, and relevant scientific research personnel from the grape and wine science and technology development team of the Institute.

  In celebration of the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and France, during the visit of President Xi Jinping to France, the Ministry of Science and Technology of the People′s Republic of China and the Ministry of Higher Education and Research of French co-hosted the Sino-French Science and Technology Cooperation Achievements Exhibition in Paris, France on May 6-7.
