  CAS PIFI Distinguished Scientist Josep G. Canadell Visited IBCAS

  On 5-14 January, Prof. Josep G. Canadell, a Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) President's International Fellowship Initiative (PIFI) Distinguished Scientist, Fellow of the Australian Academy of Science, and Fellow of the Australian Academy of Technological Sciences and Engineering, visited the Institute of Botany, Chinese Academy of Sciences (IBCAS) and delivered an invited lecture at the Hongye Forum. The forum was chaired by Prof. FENG Xiaojun, Deputy Director of IBCAS, and attracted more than 100 faculty members and students from multiple institutions

  Delegation from the Botanic Garden and Research Institute, Mongolian Academy of Sciences, Visited IBCAS

  On 27 November, a delegation led by Prof. Tuvshintogtokh Indree, the Director of the Botanic Garden and Research Institute of the Mongolian Academy of Sciences (BGRI-MAS), visited the Institute of Botany, Chinese Academy of Sciences (IBCAS). The two sides held in-depth discussions on global climate change, plant community dynamics of the Mongolia steppe, and the ecological restoration of degraded grasslands. During the visit, IBCAS and BGRI-MAS renewed the cooperation agreement. Prof. YANG Yongfeng, the Secretary of the Party Committee of IBCAS, together with relevant staff from IBCAS participated in the exchange activity

  IBCAS Organized Side Event at the 5th World Congress of Biosphere Reserves

  On September 24, the side event "the Application and Innovation of Networked Monitoring Systems in the Management of Natural Protected Areas" of the 5th World Congress of Biosphere Reserves was held in Hangzhou. Organized by the Institute of Botany, Chinese Academy of Sciences (IBCAS) and the Biodiversity Committee of Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), and co-organized by the Institute of Zoology of CAS and the International Society of Zoological Sciences, the meeting brought together nearly 100 participants from seven countries, including Indonesia, Kenya, and Brazil.

  IBCAS Partners with French Embassy to Develop a "Biodiversity Garden"

  On June 23, the French Embassy in China and the Institute of Botany, Chinese Academy of Sciences (IBCAS), jointly inaugurated the "Biodiversity Garden" in a ceremony in Beijing. Mr. Bertrand Lortholary, French Ambassador to China welcomed Ms. WU Yan, Deputy Director of the Bureau of International Cooperation of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), and Prof. YANG Wenqiang, Deputy Director-General of IBCAS. Representatives from the CAS Headquarter, IBCAS, as well as other distinguished guests also attended the event. Ambassador Lortholary expressed his gratitude for the professionalism and craftsmanship demonstrated by IBCAS throughout the design and construction of the garden.

  Prof. LI Shaohua Awarded Honorary Doctorate by France's University of Bordeaux

  Recently, the University of Bordeaux in France conferred Prof. LI Shaohua from Institute of Botany, the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the honorary degree of Doctor of Philosophy (Docteur Honoris Causa) in recognition of his achievements in the field of grapevine scientific research and genetic breeding, as well as his contributions to the Sino-French scientific cooperation and academic exchanges in the field of grapevine and wine.

  The Third International Symposium of Mapping Asia Plants Successfully Convenes

  On November 25-26, the Third International Symposium of Mapping Asia Plants was successfully held at the Institute of Botany, Chinese Academy of Sciences (IB-CAS), attracting more than 30 representatives from 15 institutions in 7 countries, including Uzbekistan, Russia, India, Indonesia, Oman, Israel, and China, as well as over 50 participants online. The opening ceremony was moderated by Prof. MA Keping, Secretary General of the Biodiversity Committee of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (BC-CAS).

  The IUCN SSC China Plant Specialist Group was Honored with the "SSC Chair's Citation Excellence" at the 5th IUCN SSC Leaders' Meeting

  The Species Survival Commission (SSC) of the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) and the Environment Agency – Abu Dhabi (EAD) co-hosted the 5th SSC Leaders Meeting in Abu Dhabi on October 25-28, 2024. This conference attracted over 300 global species conservation experts who jointly issued a significant declaration, emphasizing "Saving Species Sustains Life," highlighting the importance of species conservation for human well-being, climate stability, and the global economy.
