Brief Introduction of Field Observatory Stations
Print  |  Close    Text size:A  A  A

Observation of ecological phenomena in fields is an important step in obtaining basic data for the study of ecology. Field stations provide an important platform for studying characteristics of vegetation and environmental change at different spatial-temporal scales and ecosystem levels in the background of global change.

In 2008, IOB made a series of progresses into establishing field platforms and conducting scientific research.

From June 23 to July 18, 2008, IOB successfully organized a program sponsored by the Ministry of Commerce, the International Training Course for the Establishment and Management of Field Research Stations, which was based at the following field stations: Beijing Forest Ecosystem Research Station, National Field Station for Grassland Ecosystem in Ordos, National Field Station for Grassland Ecosystem in Xilingol, Otindag Sandland Ecological Station, and Duolun Restoration Ecology Research and Demonstration Station.

Besides completing work as regular monitors for the National Field Station and Chinese Ecosystem Research Network (CERN), all stations hosted many researchers from both within and outside the institute for scientific experiments as well as ecological observations.

Research results based on these field experiments and observations have been published in international journals such as Ecology, Functional Ecology, Conservation Biologyand Science in China. These achievements provided theoretical guidelines for comprehensive management of the local environment and for sustainable development of regional economy.
