The Ulanqab Grassland Ecological Research Station (Ulanqab Station), located in Siziwang county, Inner Mongolia (41°43'-41°47' N, 111°52'-111°56' E) with a total area of 2300hm2, was jointly built by IOB and the Inner Mongolia Academy of Agriculture and Animal Husbandry Sciences (IMAAAHS) in June 2009. Focusing on the research of zonal desert grassland vegetation, the station has carried out researches on the ecological conservation of degraded grassland and the sustainable development model of interaction between grassland and livestock, undertakes the missions of grassland and animal husbandry research, experimental demonstration, achievement presentation and talent training in Inner Mongolia. Now Ulanqab Station has established long-term grazing control experiments and water and nutrient control experiments to reply to climate change. Additionally, the station has also conducted researches of new technology for selecting and breeding as well as improvement of livestock varieties and optimization of feeding, established a 33000 m2 nursery for original species seeds of Xerophytic forage around the native species breeding, and an over 330 hm2 filed for experimental breeding of Xerophytic forage. In 2011, Ulanqab Station published one work with the name of "Positioning Study of Desert Steppe".
