This year marks the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and France. These two countries have great significance and development potential in agricultural science and technology cooperation.
Last Friday, the 6th annual meeting of the Sino-French joint laboratory on grape and wine (LIA Innogrape) was held on November 1 at the Institute of Botany, Chinese Academy of Sciences.
Since 2018, the Institute of Botany, Chinese Academy of Sciences has jointly established the Sino-French joint laboratory of grape and wine (hereinafter referred to as the "Joint Laboratory") with the French National Research Institute for Agriculture, Food and Environment (INRAE), the University of Bordeaux and the Bordeaux Sciences Agro. The Joint Laboratory has carried out long-term research cooperation in the field of grape and wine. The Joint Laboratory represents the INRAE's highest level of international cooperation. Since the establishment, a series of achievements have been achieved, such as joint analysis of the origin and domestication of grapes, research and development of efficient breeding technology, and the establishment of an accurate evaluation and prediction platform for climate change on grape production, which have strongly supported the sustainable development of the grape industry in the two countries.
Mr. Jo Cadilhon, Agricultural Counsellor of the French Embassy in China, said in his opening speech that the grape and wine are important industries in contemporary agriculture, and he looked forward to further improving the quality of grapes through cooperation between the two sides.
The French Director of the Joint Laboratory, Dr. Nathalie Ollat summarized that the exchanges during the meeting have provided possibilities for new cooperation in the fields of biological control and ecological interaction based on existing cooperation. She also shared the proposal of summer school she had submitted for students the next year.
Prof. DAI Zhanwu from the joint laboratory believed that the participation of new teams from China and France has expanded the current areas of cooperation, and put forward expectations for the cultivation of young talents, and encouraged more academic exchanges between young scholars between China and France.
In the context of global climate change and biodiversity loss, China and France continue to expand international cooperation based on the Joint Laboratory through in-depth exchanges on the progress made by their respective teams in the research and sustainable development of biodiversity with grapes as the object, and implement the consensus of the Chinese and French heads of state on strengthening bilateral agricultural cooperation.
