On October 14, the First Sino-French Symposium on Agricultural Science and Technology and Sustainable Development, co-hosted by the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) and the French National Research Institute for Agriculture, Food and Environment (INRAE), and organized by the Institute of Botany, CAS (IBCAS), was successfully held.
Prof. YANG Wenqiang, Deputy Director of IBCAS, attended the meeting and delivered a welcome speech. He warmly welcomed the delegation led by INRAE Vice President Mr. Jean-François Soussana and briefly introduced the institute. Mr. RU Zhitao, Deputy Director of the European Division of the Bureau of International Cooperation, CAS, introduced the latest developments in Sino-French scientific cooperation from both the national and CAS perspectives, emphasizing the importance and potential of agricultural science collaboration between China and France. He expressed the hope that this seminar would further strengthen the exchange and connection between both sides, expand areas of cooperation, and promote practical collaboration to implement the consensus reached by the presidents of China and France on enhancing bilateral agricultural cooperation at a high level.
Vice President Mr. Jean-François Soussana stated that CAS is one of INRAE's most important partners and that he looked forward to quickly resuming exchanges and cooperation between the two sides after the pandemic. He also highlighted the importance of increasing support for young scientists in conducting international collaborations to cultivate the next generation of cooperative leaders.
Subsequently, experts from China and France shared reports and engaged in lively discussions on four topics: Agroecological Crop Protection, Plant Phenotyping, plant genetics, and AI for Agriculture. In his concluding remarks, Mr. Jean-François Soussana highly praised the outcomes of the meeting, providing feedback on each topic and suggesting next steps. Prof. YANG Wenqiang proposed increasing the frequency of discussions and exchanges in the future through both online and offline meetings, constantly exploring and expanding new areas of cooperation.
Around 50 participants, including personnel from INRAE, the French Embassy in China, the Bureau of International Cooperation and the Bureau of Sustainable Development, and experts and students from the Northeast Institute of Geography and Agroecology, the Aerospace Information Research Institute, the Institute of Geographic Sciences and Natural Resources Research, the Institute of Microbiology, Institute of Geographic Sciences and Natural Resources Research, Institute of Microbiology, the Institute of Computing Technology, the Institute of Genetics and Developmental Biology and the Institute of Botany, attended the symposium.
