The 20th International Botanical Congress (IBC 2024) has begun in Madrid, Spain, with the Nomenclature Section running from July 15-19, 2024, followed by the main Congress from July 21-27, 2024.
This global event is held every six years under the guidance of the International Association for Botanical and Mycological Societies (IABMS). Initially, the 20th Congress was scheduled to take place in Brazil in 2023, following the 2017 Congress in Shenzhen, China. However, the global pandemic prevented the 2023 meeting in Brazil. The Congress features plenary lectures, concurrent symposia, posters, exhibitors, short courses, and workshops, serving as a comprehensive platform for sharing knowledge about the plant and mycological sciences.
Over 30 scientists and students from the Institute of Botany, Chinese Academy of Sciences (IBCAS) are participating in the conference. Among them, Prof. Ge Song serves as a member of the advisory committee. Prof. MA Keping serves as a invited speaker and his presentation entitled "Biodiversity and Ecosystem Functioning in Subtropical Forest". Prof. Wang Xiaoquan, the Director of IBCAS, will chair the session ‘Phylogenomics And Evolution of Gymnosperm’ and give a presentation on ‘Multidisciplinary approaches reveal the spatiotemporal evolution of gymnosperms’.
In addition, nearly ten other scientists will give presentations to share progress in their respective fields.
