From November 6th to 8th, the 7th IUCN Asia Regional Conservation Forum was held in Islamabad, Pakistan. Prof. Keping Ma from Institute of Botany, CAS was re-elected as the chairman of the IUCN Regional Members Committee for Asia during the forum.
This was one of the most important events about Asia biodiversity and ecosystem conservation. The theme of the forum was Greening Asia for Nature and People, more than 550 delegates from governments, NGOs, academic institutions and private sectors of 25 Asia countries and other areas participated, 41 Chinese member representatives include the Biodiversity Committee of the Chinese Academy of Sciences participated.
At the Forum, Prof. Ma reported on the work of the ARMC, especially introducing important activities such as the World Ecosystem Governance Forum, the Global Strategy for Plant Conservation and the World Conservation Forum etc. organized by Chinese members. Emphasize that IUCN should pay more attention to the role of members and give members a strong sense of belonging and responsibility. Since serving as an IUCN councilor from 2007 to 2012, and the chairman of the IUCN Regional Members Committee for Asia in 2015 Prof. Ma was re-elected to hold an important position in the organization, showing the increasingly important international influence of the protection and study of Chinese biodiversity.
