On the morning of 14th November, Director of the Missouri Botanical Garden, Professor Peter Raven visited the Institute of Botany and introduced the EOL international cooperation program (Encyclopedia of Life, life encyclopedia) for scientific researchers and graduate students. The Encyclopedia of Life (EOL) is an ambitious project to organize and make available via the Internet virtually all information about life present on Earth. At its heart lies a series of Web sites—one for each of the approximately 1.8 million known species. Each site is constantly evolving and features dynamically synthesized content ranging from historical literature and biological descriptions to stunning images, videos and distribution maps. After the speech, Prof. Dr. Ma Keping, Director of Institute of Botany and several researchers had a brief discussion with Prof. Peter Raven on the upcoming China EOL project plan. Both Ma and Peter agreed to promote China EOL projects as soon as possible.
