International Cooperation in 2017

In 2017, with serving technology innovation for center, tightly around the "One-Three-Five" Strategic Planning, IOB has further expanded and deepened the international S&T cooperation, has improved the internationalization level and international influence, and enhanced the innovation ability in the related fields. This year, the institute has got 14 new international projects approved and received funding of around 9 million RMB.

In 2017, according by the communication plan, IOB kept active international exchange with the scholars and scientists all around the world. Altogether there are 142 scholars going abroad to conduct cooperative research and attend conferences, and 199 coming to visit IOB. The scholars are also active to get involved in international affairs. To date, there are 18 scholars serving in 22 international organizations and 39 scholars in 67 international journals.

In 2017, there are 4 international conferences held by IOB, including Meeting for Asia Regional Members Committee of IUCN (2017), 13th International Meeting on Biosynthesis, Function and Synthetic Biology of Isoprenoids, JIPB Board Meeting in 2017, etc. These conferences, to some extent, provided a good platform for the institute to be known by the international universities and organizations, and also promoted further communication between the world and China. Besides, the institute has organized a "One Belt One Road" training course, which built up the basis for the cooperation between OBOR countries.

The international cooperation projects made good progress in 2017. The NSFC international project "Flora of Pan-Himalaya", held by IOB scientists, involved with international scholars has advanced steadily. A largescale field expedition to Xizang and a Sino-Nepal Joint investigation to west Nepal have been organized; eight Chinese researchers were sent to UK to examine the specimens; 3 foreign authors visited IOB for collaborative research. In 2017, four volumes/books were compiled and one volume was published.

CAS-CSIRO project "How do crops feel the cold "has improved the cooperation between IOB and CSIRO. This project has selected thousands of vernalization signal response genes and discovered the enrichment pattern in wheat, which supports to identify the vernalization mechanism. A new CAS-CSIRO project "Improving crop yield potential under water and climatic constraints in the North China Plain and Australia’s northern grain zone" has been approved and will start in 2018.

Meeting for Asia Regional Members Committee of IUCN (2017) was held in Zhejiang Province in September.

Sino-Nepal Joint investigation to west Nepal was organized in September.

"One Belt One Road" training course was taking the field study.
