In 2016, IOB continued to promote international communication based on the "One-Three-Five" Strategic Planning. The institute is carrying out closer cooperation with developed countries and Third World countries, and participating actively in international researches, becoming a powerful academic institute around the world. This year, the Institute has conducted 15 new international projects in total and received research funding of 9.9 million RMB.

In 2016, abiding by the communication plan, IOB kept active international exchange with the scholars and scientists all around the world. Altogether there are 158 scholars going abroad to conduct cooperative research and attend conferences, and 183 coming to visit IOB. The scholars are also active to get involved in international affairs. To date there are 46 scholars serve in 109 international organizations and journals.

In 2016, there are 4 international conferences held by IOB, including 37th New Phytologist Symposium, Motivating Joint Efforts among IUCN Members in Asia, Workshop on JSTP Project, and Workshop on China-Africa Cooperation of Resources and Environmental Technology. These conferences, to some extent, provided a good platform for the institute to be known by the international universities and organizations, and also promoted further communication between the world and China. Besides, the institute has several international training courses that provided great chances for potential scientists to self-improve.

The international cooperation projects made good progress in 2016. The compilation of MOST international project "Ecosystem Monitoring and adaptive management in the typical areas of the Nile Basin" was doing well this year. Lots of efforts have been done on the recognition and the vectorization of vegetation cover in Lake Tana river basin, providing reference information on local vegetation cover assessment, ecological protection and land resources programming. Our researchers, who are carrying on NSFC international project "Flora of Pan-Himalayan", participated in China-Japan-Korea Trilateral Meeting “East Asian Plant Diversity and Conservation 2016”, and exchanged more than one thousand plant samples and DNA samples with foreign cooperators.
