International Cooperation in 2012

In 2012, IOB actively expanded its cooperation with developed and neighboring developing countries, and in doing so made good progress. The major progress made ininternational cooperation throughout the year is as follows:

Increasing international exchange
International exchanges and cooperation efforts with IOB have continually increased. In 2012, there were 112 batches of 168 people coming to visit, and 150 batches of 251 people coming to visit. There have been 75 SCI papers published through international cooperation, which is a little more than a quarter of all IOB’s published papers.Twelve papers have an impact factor of 5 or more, and four papers have an impact factor of 9 or more. One person was newly appointed as a foreign distinguished research fellow. Twelve international cooperation projects were granted, and funds of RMB 7.19 million were received.

Participating in international affairs, increasing influence
Currently, 59 shifts of employees are serving in international organizations and journals, among which 10 shifts of employees served as the Chief Editor and as the Associate Editor in international journals. Four shifts of employees served as President, as a member of a council Director, and as other staff in international organizations. IOB staff members have won international awards. Academician Deyuan Hong received the 1st Lachlan Macquarie Medal of the Royal Botanic Gardens, Sydney, Australia. The doctoral dissertation research plan from the oversea student Nawal Shrestha of Nepal (Xianchun Zhang team) was supported by the 2012 IAPT Research Foundation of Plant Systematics, and is the first such plan supported from China.
In 2012, IOB held two international conferences and one training course: The 10th International Symposium on Clonal Plant Ecology, the 2012 Annual Conference of Biodiversity Information Standards (TDWG), and an international training class on ecological system long-term observation technology (MOST).

International cooperation continuously expanded
In 2012, IOB actively applied for the project of International Science and Technology Cooperation Base (MOST) and won, which is helpful for deepening IOB's international cooperation.An international cooperation project (NSFC), the compilation of "Pan-Himalayan flora ", progressed well. In 2012, IOB organized a total of three comprehensive wild inspections including one in Tibet and two in Pakistan, collected thousands of plant samples, plant DNA and seedling materials, and took many high resolution colorful pictures of habitats and plants.
In 2012, with vegetation ecological protection and technical cooperation projects of typical regions of the Nile Basin, IOB and its collaborators accomplished screening indexes of an international training class of ecological system long-term observation technology, and a compilation titled Land Ecosystem Long-term Observation Technology . Meanwhile, IOB researchers visited and inspected four cooperating African countries for 21 days, which further enhanced mutual ties.
