The International Symposium on “Tracing Patterns of Evolution through the Tree of Life” was held in Beijing from June 3-7, 2007. The symposium aimed to bring together a group of international and domestic evolutionary biologists to discuss the theoretical and practical problems on reconstructing the Tree of Life (ToL). ToL research has been pursued by the international evolutionary biology community for several years, and it has generated a new momentum for systematics and evolutionary biology in the new century.
